In celebration of Artweeks’ 30th anniversary, photographer Simon Murison-Bowie has photographed 30 Oxfordshire artists at work in their studios, his intention being to explore the interaction between those creating, their personal workspace and the tools and methods they use to produce their work.

Murison-Bowie’s photography is film-based and all the portraits are in black-and-white. Illustrated here is Manja Scott: printmaker and painter, (c. Murison-Bowie), absorbed in the task of making a print, with examples of her work on the wall behind her. Other artists and craftspeople in the series include painters, printmakers, a collagist, a puppeteer, an installation artist, potters, sculptors, glass workers, jewellers, silversmiths and wood turners.

The dedication and expertise that Murison-Bowie has captured, bear testament to both the huge range of talent that exists in Oxfordshire and to his skill as a photographer, portraying as he does the nature of both the art or craft and the artist/craftsperson.

Murison-Bowie came back to his teenage interest in photography in the early 1990s and since then he has both exhibited himself and curated photographic exhibitions on a regular basis.

The exhibition is at The Mill Arts Centre, Banbury. Open daily, it continues until June 2.
