Ash disease confirmed in Oxfordshire

The first confirmed case of Chalara ash dieback has been confirmed in Oxfordshire tonight.

A map published by the Forestry Commission shows an infection at a recently planted site north east of Oxford, near Bicester. The disease has now been confirmed in 115 sites in the UK.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs will not disclose the exact location of the infection, which is caused by the fungus Chalara fraxinea and has previously resulted in the loss of between 60 per cent and 90 per cent of ash trees in Denmark.

Try notifying the council about possible die back disease
1 Cherwell Tree man tells me to contact Oxfordshire CC as the suspect tree is on the verge of the main road in Kidlingtons Bicester road traffic lights across Water eaton Lane
2 3 attempts to contact OCC result in phone coming through with engaged signal on their road telephone line after 3 minutes of being told they were there to help
3 phoned the main line to OCC explained who I wanted to talk to and what my call was about a young lad who I explained about the national alarm about this disease did not know anything about it and seem to think I was wasting his time
I gave up after 30 minutes on my phone bill to be told this.
