l AS the killing in Gaza continues, the sanctimonious hypocrisy of American foreign policy knows no bounds.

During the recent Security Council debate on Syria when Russia and China used their veto to prevent a resolution being carried, Susan Rice – the American ambassador to the UN, said that “blood would be on their hands” as a result of their action.

On November 14 during the debate on the onslaught on Gaza, Ms Rice used the American veto to prevent a resolution which might have been critical of Israel, following the so-called Negroponte Doctrine which cynically promises to block any criticism of Israel in the UN.

So on whose hands is the blood of the 150 (so far) Gazans who have been killed in this latest “defensive” operation by the Israel Defence Forces?

It is ironic that the United States, which has the power and the means to solve the tragic Israel/Palestine conflict resolutely refuses to do so and allows the devious Netanyahu to call the shots, as he is in the latest onslaught, to show what a strong man he is prior to imminent Israeli elections.

The efforts of Egypt to broker a ceasefire and possible longer-term solution to this festering problem is a serious indictment of the lack of action shown by the US, the UK and EU.
