I NOTED with some interest in (Memory Lane, December 3) that the ‘Looking Back’ item for 10 years ago had officials defending Oxfordshire’s education system as only one school, Cherwell, was rated in the top 400 in a Sunday Times league table.

Then in the past few days, Councillor Tilley, after continued bad league table results, is saying something must be done. I would be interested to know by whom, as the only consistent factor in the county’s education policy for more years than I can recall is the Conservative Party.

They seem to have got it consistently wrong for years, yet all that seems to happen is the blame is placed on the teachers.

But then teachers are easy meat for the politicians, whether at local or national level. I wonder if in 10 years’ time there will be a change. I fear not.
