Reaction to the possible closure of the main post office in Witney has been swift and predictably angry.

Like its counterpart in St Aldates, Oxford, the most memorable feature of the Witney post office is the queue that regularly stretches out of the door.

So you might think that what the post office needs more than anything else is investment in staff and improvements, rather than considering closure.

The Post Office says it wants to try to find a new home for its services in a town centre retailer and maintains that all services will be maintained, but exactly how this will happen if the counter service is transferred to another shop is not clear.

We think the Post Office should reconsider its plans and instead invest in the current branch.

Witney needs an improved post office, with more staff to cope with demand, not a smaller facility hidden away in another shop.
