THE picture of women at Morris Motors raising their glasses (Memory Lane, January 28) wasn’t taken at the seaside after all.

We thought three pictures sent in by Olive Pratley, of Brambling Way, Blackbird Leys, were from a seaside outing to Southend in 1959 or 1960.

But while two were clearly seaside shots, one was taken in the trim shop inside the Cowley car factory. Why were the women drinking at work?

Ann McInerney, of Elm Drive, Garsington, whose maiden name was Hussey, tells me: “We were celebrating Christmas and my 21st birthday on Boxing Day.”

She was in the picture with fellow trim shop workers Barbara Rendall, Barbara Konopka, Jackie Webb, Olive King and others called Myra, Carol, Phyllis and Gladys.
