Sir – Since a picture of myself was used to accompany councillor Heathcoat’s letter about North Leigh library (February 7), I thought I should add a few points that may make matters clearer.
The current member of staff at North Leigh Library was appointed and performed excellently as a library manager.
Three years ago, she was told that the post was being demoted to senior library assistant: she accepted the resultant loss of salary because she wanted to stay with us. Now, it seems the library needs a manager again, but a temporary post. No wonder villagers are puzzled.
Other things people need to know: l When can library users expect contact from the library services manager? l If the village (and users from the surrounding area?) want to raise money to cover the staff hours that Oxfordshire County Council decided not to fund in future, when exactly do they need the first money by? l In calculating future funding, will special arrangements be made regarding the hours when this library is currently open only for classes from the primary school across the road?
Dr Judith Wardle, North Leigh
