This week is Footsteps Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week (May 11–18) and local charity Footsteps Foundation has been celebrating the achievements of the children who receive intensive physiotherapy at the Footsteps Centre in Dorchester-on-Thames.

One local mother said of the difference that the Footsteps therapy programme had made to her and her family: “I sincerely believe that Footsteps showed my son the way and gave him the self-confidence to find his feet. This progress is life changing for him and I can’t thank you enough for making our dream come true.”

Footsteps Foundation supports low-income families with disabled children by funding a percentage of therapy costs, enabling children with neurological disorders to access the centre’s unique ‘spider’ equipment. The programme helps to improve physical ability, confidence and independence and enables children to reach their full potential.

This year, local organisations including Grundon Waste Management, Jennings and Oxford Brookes Nursery are coming together to do some fundraising on Footsteps Friday (May 17) to support the local charity.

Clayton Sullivan-Webb, finance director and company secretary at Grundon, said: “Grundon is always pleased to support good causes and community initiatives close to our offices and depots.

“Footsteps Foundation is particularly close to our hearts here at the Benson head office as two of our employees have children that benefit enormously from attending the centre.”

The charity is supported by a dedicated team of volunteers who formed a fundraising committee last year. Since its formation, the team has continued to grow and offers invaluable support to Footsteps Foundation. The committee welcomes new members and Footsteps Foundation has several other volunteer opportunities available throughout the year.

During Footsteps Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week, the charity is appealing to individuals to donate an hour of their salary.

During an hour of therapy at Footsteps, a disabled child can achieve 100 steps on the treadmill. By donating an hour of your salary, you can help make this possible. Please visit justgiving.com/Footsteps-Foundation-DonateAnHour2013 to make your donation.
