PLANS for 98 new homes in Southmoor have been approved in principle by councillors in the Vale of White Horse.

The district council’s planning committee agreed on Wednesday that planning officers will be able to sign off permission after a legal agreement is drawn up.

Taylor Wimpey and The Heathfield Trust want to build 98 homes with open space and access routes on land off Draycott Road.

The approval for the scheme was agreed despite the fact the proposal did not fit with the Vale’s current development plan.

But in a report to the committee, planning officer David Rothery said it did fit with national policy.

The committee agreed to delegate decision powers to officers to work with Taylor Wimpey to thrash out an agreement on contributions the developer must pay towards local infrastructure.
