WOMEN formed a Ploughshare Co-operative to run a wholefood cafe, shop and meeting place in the 1980s, but their plans were delayed because they couldn’t find suitable premises. Trainee Sarah England, 17, working on the fish counter at International Stores, featured in a film to promote the Government’s Youth Training Scheme in 1984. Jamie Rance, with the camera, was accompanied by director Penny Woolcock and recordist Tim Potter.
The bottom picture, taken in 1962, shows Margot Forbes preparing to open her second Miranda fashion shop. Her first, in Cowley Road, had opened in 1959 and had been so successful that she decided to expand her business.
