THE man who fell to his death from Carfax Tower was not working on the landmark’s refurbishment, it has been confirmed by Oxford City Council.

Restoration work is currently underway on the 13th century landmark’s clock and quarter boys, and scaffolding is currently up against the tower.

Believed to be in his 40s, the man fell from the tower at around 10am this morning and Queen Street was closed off for around an hour.

City council spokesman Louisa Dean has said the tower, which attracts around 40,000 visitors a year, will remain closed for the rest of the day “as a mark of respect”.
