A FORMER Oxford University kitchen porter has been jailed for two years for being a heroin and cocaine dealer.

Oluwatosin Omoniyi, who worked at Wolfson College, pleaded guilty to possession of both cocaine and heroin worth about £1,120 with intent to supply.

The 20-year-old, of Massey Close in Headington, was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Friday.

Omoniyi was arrested on January 13, last year, after officers patrolling in an unmarked car spotted him in Marlborough Road, Oxford.

Prosecutor Iain Wicks said he was seen discarding items at the scene, which were later found to be three wraps of a class A drug.

Mr Wicks said Omoniyi originally gave police a false address. Finally, after admitting his correct address, his house was searched.

Officers found £140 in cash, just under five grams of heroin and a little over nine grams of crack cocaine. The total value was about £1,120.

Omoniyi was previously convicted of possessing cannabis, in August 2012 and again in November 2012.

Defence barrister Lucy Ffrench said Omoniyi had a “difficult” childhood and was brought to the UK from Nigeria aged nine.

She said Omoniyi received housing benefit of £50 a week to live on, with “more outgoings than he could possibly pay for” and added: “He was approached by others to be a runner for them in terms of selling drugs.

“He entered into that with a clear head, determined to make money from it. He was constantly promised money but received no profits apart from some trainers worth £60.”

Judge Patrick Eccles said: “You are a responsible young man, perfectly capable of making responsible decisions, but you chose not to in this instance.”

Omoniyi was sentenced to two years for each offence possession with intent offence, which will run concurrently. The total jail term was two years.
