With Spring well established and the new season’s lamb readily available, what better wine to choose than Rioja?
These lovely elegant yet rich wines are the perfect match for lamb roasted with rosemary when the aromatics of both the wine and the meat aided by the herbs mingle together just superbly. What a wonderful combination – surely a match made in heaven.
The spring Rioja mixed case is priced at £97, normal price £114.54, includes three bottles of each of the following four wines:
Artesa Rioja Tempranillo Cosecha 2011
A textbook Rioja from Bodegas Artesa, soft red and black berry fruit flavours leading to a long creamy finish. This wine really over performs at this price point and is a real must for Rioja lovers.
Navajas Rioja Tinto 2011
This is Rioja at its precocious youthful best, with intense raspberry and black cherry fruit overlayed with a flourish of vanilla and coconut. It is beautifully balanced with medium weight and cushioned by fine grain tannins.
Paternina Banda Azul Rioja Crianza 2008
Bodegas Paternina made Hemingway's favourite Rioja and was also a favoured by the poet Robert Graves who kept a room full of it in his house in Deya, Majorca. This is benchmark Rioja Crianza with old oak and forest floor flavours mingled with touches of smoke and fungal fruit.
Beronia Rioja Reserva 2007
Top quality wine aged in American and French oak for 18 months. Intensely aromatic, harmonious and complex, this is a mixture of the traditional and modern style of Rioja and shows lovely silky, structured fruit.
