IN REGARDS to Alan Spence’s letter (Viewpoints, May 10), having been born in the village of Old Marston many moons ago, I can remember when we were under control of the Bullingdon Rural District Council before it later became South Oxfordshire DC.

Many, like Alan, feel that the change of boundaries some years ago, when we came under control of the city council, put Old Marston somewhat at the bottom of the pecking order.

We do actually, by means of our council tax, pay a few pounds more than say Blackbird Leys as we have to pay the parish precept.

Alan is concerned about the problem of non-residents using our streets as a car park and that nothing is being done. I can assure him that our independent city councillor, Mick Haines, has just spent a considerable amount of his time, giving this issue his utmost attention.

If Alan wishes to know more, I am sure Mick will be only too pleased to enlighten him as to what is happening. As Alan says: “It would be great if the residents could have informal meetings with the police over coffee, as they do in Blackbird Leys, to discuss local issues and problems.”

Our local community police officers and the PCSOs are operating from a premises next to the fishing tackle shop in Westlands Drive on North Way Estate. I hope Alan will find this information of some use.
