I WANTED to respond to Bob Knight (ViewPoints, June 21) about free TV lLicences for those aged over 75.

Mr Knight is correct that anyone over the age of 75 qualifies for a free licence.

This is not issued automatically and needs to be applied for.

To make it easy for people to take up their free licence, we offer short-term licences to people who are 74 to cover them up to their 75th birthday. This is not a concession, but may be cheaper as the licence does not last for a full year – it covers you for the period between your last licence expiring and your 75th birthday.

When Mr Knight turns 75, he can apply for a free TV licence and a refund will be available for any full months remaining on the licence he bought before he turned 75. To apply for his free licence and discuss whether he is eligible for a refund, he can apply online at tvlicensing.co.uk or contact us on 0300 790 6131.

TV Licensing works with age organisations and the media to raise awareness of the concession, so people who are eligible can benefit from a free TV licence.
