GARDENERS are being urged to show off their hard work in this year’s Bicester In Bloom.

The gauntlet has been thrown down for residents to enter the annual Bicester Town Council-organised contest and win themselves an award.

Categories include back, front and tenant gardens, allotment, hanging basket, newcomer, nursery environmental garden and best of the best. Primary and secondary schools are being urged to enter the Carol Steward Award for the Best Environmental Garden, in memory of the town and district councillor and Bicester Community College governor who died in 2011 after battling leukaemia.

Environment committee chairman Lynn Pratt said: “I would encourage people to enter their back garden or front garden.

“We will come and look at them and they are judged fairly.

People have until Friday, August 16 to enter the contest. Judging will take place in the last two weeks of August and winners will be announced at a special presentation in Garth Park, Launton Road, on September 8.
