‘The University’s offer to carry out a “voluntary” Environmental Impact Assessment over their grotesque blocks on Port Meadow, while continuing to insist it’s really not necessary, is indicative of their utterly contemptuous attitude to the residents of Oxford.

It has become increasingly and alarmingly apparent just how disingenuous both the University and council have been in this fiasco and an independent inquiry comes not before time. As for the “voluntary” EIA, the University should by all means pay for an independent assessment, with comprehensive terms of reference that include the visual impact and anything English Heritage might ask, in relation to a site that enjoys the highest levels of protection available in the UK. Anything less would have no credibility whatsoever.
