Thames Water has pledged that there will not be a hosepipe ban this summer.
It comes as demand for water in the region has grown by 15 per cent – or 400m litres a day above the usual 2.6bn – during the heatwave in the last two weeks.
But the company says groundwater, rivers and reservoirs are full following England’s wettest ever year in 2012.
