TEACHERS Charlie Barnett and Phil Dodd were the ones under the spotlight at the end of term celebrations this week at John Mason School in Abingdon.

The secondary school students had the chance to get their own back on the teachers as they choreographed a break dance routine for them to perform at the festival on Wednesday.

But history teacher Mr Barnett, 31, was full of praise for his students. He said: “They choreographed the whole dance.

“They were so good we are now starting a school break dancing club in September.”

Other performances at the festival co-ordinated by pupils included BMX biking workshops, live music and an open mic competition.

And a fashion show saw Kiera Woodley, 14, and Hannah Sawitzki, 15, making their copies of the Oxford Mail last even longer by turning them into dresses and modelling them.

Laura Tams, 35, head of humanities and organiser of the festival, said: “It’s fantastic to see John Mason School students pulling together to create a summer festival enjoyed by parents, primary children and the community, while also raising money for the local charity SpecialEffect. We have been bowled over by the response.”
