A COUPLE found to have more than £3,000 worth of cannabis in their home have been sentenced at Oxford Crown Court.

Jonathan Stone, prosecuting, said Nathan Forbes and Jade Reeves were arrested by police at a house in Harefields, Cutteslowe, Oxford, on January 8 this year.

He said during a search of their property officers discovered around 250g of cannabis, a Class B drug, 3.92g of cocaine and 1.2g of MDMA, both Class A drugs.

Also discovered in the search was a “tick list”, used to keep track of money owed by customers, hydroponic equipment for growing cannabis, and £1,300 in cash, the barrister added.

Mr Stone said Reeves, 23, told police the money was hers to pay the rent with and denied knowing about any of the drugs or about the paraphernalia.

But eventually, he added, she admitted knowing the money came from drug dealing and pleaded guilty to one count of money laundering.

He told judge Patrick Eccles, sitting in Oxford Crown Court, that Forbes, 21, had confessed to two counts of possessing drugs with intent to supply, as well as one count of simple possession.

David Rhodes, defending Forbes, said his client was a very different young man to the person who committed the offence.

He said: “He has now moved away from Oxford to live with his mother in County Durham, which has made a remarkable difference in his life.

“And by his pleas he has done the decent thing and spared the mother of his child from facing a prison sentence.”

Mr Rhodes added that in reality Forbes, who worked as a barber, was a “cannabis dealer” and the cocaine that had been found was just a “sideline”.

He added that Forbes had been a “bright boy” growing up, who was predicted to get As in his GCSEs until he was sentenced to detention aged just 15.

Benjamin Narain, defending Reeves, said the mother-of-two had no previous convictions and had never had any involvement with drugs in her life.

But he told Judge Eccles that his client, who now also lives in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, was sorry for what she had done.

On Thursday Judge Eccles sentenced Forbes to 30 months in prison.

He gave his former partner a six-month community order with a requirement that she undergoes supervision.
