A contrasting programme from one of the UK’s most exciting young chamber ensembles, including Haydn Piano Trio Hob XV 29 and Shostakovich Piano Trio No.2. The trio has won a number of major prizes, including the 2013 Parkhouse Award. With Chiao-Ying Chang (piano), Sulki Yu (violin) and Pei-Jee Ng (cello).

A rare perfor-mance of the complete Opus 39 Studies is the highlight of this celebration of French composer Charles-Valentin Alkan, born 200 years ago. Jack Gibbons brings his characteristic flair to this and a selection of other Alkan pieces, including Symphony for Solo Piano, Concerto for Solo Piano and the evocative miniature The Song of the Mad Woman on the Sea Shore.

MACK WILBERG CELEBRATORY CONCERT

Admission free A concert to honour Mack Wilberg, US choral composer and director of the famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir, during his first visit to Oxford for five years. Music by Wilberg alongside American and English composers who have influenced his work, including Tallis, Chilcott, Rutter, Pärt, Tavener, Gibbons, Pearsall, Lauridsen and Sheppard. Directed by Benjamin Nicholas.

A semi-staged performance of Handel’s operatic-style oratorio, written in 1743 with a libretto by playwright William Congreve and based on the Greek myth of Semele, mother of Dionysus. Includes the famous aria Where’er You Walk. Directed by Elizabeth Deacon, with piano accompaniment. There will be a retiring collection, and a chance to meet the performers afterwards.
