Sir – Your report of August 8 on Tyndale Community School was not quite accurate in an important particular — the city planning committee rejected the school application because of traffic issues and because the site overall is too small (barely a quarter of the county normal area) not the size of the buildings.
The school will have NO playing field — the developer wants to build houses on the site — and the Tarmac play area is substandard, too.
And this in a two-form entry school with 420 pupils, a year after the splendid Olympics, which, the Government said, would leave a legacy of sporting prowess, particularly for children. Thank you Mr Pickles and Mr Gove for allowing a substandard primary school in Oxford, overturning local opinion.
Mike Gotch, Oxford city councillor, Wolvercote
