A FORMER Wantage mayor has called for a zip wire to be installed in the recreation ground.
Charlotte Dickson put a motion to the town council, which was passed last month, to ask the district council to negotiate money from housing developers for new and better play equipment at the Manor Road park.
The section 106 money will come from major housing developments coming to Wantage in Crab Hill, Charlton, and Chain Hill.
Mrs Dickson said: “If we have got all these new developments we should put forward a request for some section 106 money.
“The play equipment has been there for the past 20 years. It has been great and has lasted well but I would like to see if we can get a zip wire.”
Recently several Wantage residents, including charity champion Ray Collins, said they would raise funds to rebuild the 1970s hill fort in the park which was burnt down.
Mrs Dickson added: “That would be fantastic. We want more stuff and it would also be nice to get adult exercise equipment.”
A request will go to Vale of White Horse Council.
