A SUPERMARKET chain is planning to expand its Chipping Norton store.

Work is due to start on The Midcounties Co-operative store next month.

The first phase of the revamp at the High Street store includes increasing the number of customer parking spaces.

The Co-op was unable to confirm how many jobs will be created with the expansion, how many extra parking spaces there will be or how much is being invested.

Chief executive Ben Reid said: “Chipping Norton is at the heart of our trading area and we are committed to investing in the town.

“There have been some delays in getting started on the project, but I am very happy to see our plans move forward, with contractors due on site next month.’’ Once the revamp is completed, alterations to the junction of Albion Street and Cattle Market will provide a separate entrance for delivery vehicles, away from the customer vehicle entrance.

Shoppers’ access to the High Street will continue.
