PRET A MANGER founder Julian Metcalfe opened the first of his Itsu food brand outside London in Oxford on Friday.
The Asian-inspired shop and takeaway already serves more than 8.5 million customers a year from four locations in the capital, including Tottenham Court Road. Opening the shop in Oxford’s Cornmarket Street, he said: “The shop looks beautiful and I hear it has been very full. We are confident it will do okay.
“We opened in Oxford because it has a very vibrant streak and has got a good mixture of shoppers, visitors and tourists.”
The new Oxford store, which seats more than 100 customers, has created 18 jobs.
It is in the building formerly occupied by budget book store The Works, which closed earlier this year because of rent costs and business rates.
