Picture 1 There was lots of fun in the sun when the village held its pram race in 1987. Teams rattled through the streets in all sorts of strange contraptions for a chance to be first at the finishing line. The event was boosted that year by the appearance of actor Jeremy Child, who lived in the village, and fellow stars Ian Ogilvy, Julie Watson, James Faulkner, Tom Wilkinson and Diana Hardcastle.
Picture 2 Sports, games, arts and crafts were on offer at a playscheme in the village in 1986. Clare Wright, seven, and Stacey Haycock, five, are pictured enjoying mutual face painting. Organisers were critical that year of lack of help from adults – older children had to act as play leaders to make sure the scheme took place.
Picture 3 The Mill Stream day centre got a welcome boost in 1986 with a cheque for £1,000, the proceeds of a horse and dog show. Pictured left to right are Fiona Huntingford, on Zara, Elizabeth Leppard, Dr Anne Miller and Sam Clayton, on Jenny Wren.
