TEACHERS and pupils are celebrating after getting an upgrade from Ofsted inspectors.
At its last inspection in 2011, Launton Primary School on Bicester Road, Launton, was rated satisfactory overall.
Inspectors said that pupils’ achievement was “satisfactory” and their progress “improving”, but was still uneven.
Teachers, they added, did not always meet differing needs, especially in afternoon lessons where there were mixed age groups.
But just 11 days into her job, new headteacher Lisa Howson has been told that the school is being turned around and is now rated good.
Mrs Howson, a former pupil at the school, only started work there on September 1 and Ofsted inspectors turned up 11 days later.
She said: “It was like a baptism of fire.
“The school was rated good. It had been satisfactory for quite a long time, so we are very pleased.”
The school has been informed of its rating but the full report is yet to be published on Ofsted’s website.
Launton, a Church of England Primary School, has 136 children on its roll, aged four to 11.
