BELLS were hoisted up the tower of St Peter’s Church in Cassington yesterday in readiness to ring across the village once again.

The six bronze bells in the village church have not chimed for 13 years.

But after a £75,000 restoration project by bellhangers Whites of Appleton, based in Abingdon, the bells are ready to ring again.

Churchwarden John Hemingway said: “Many people in the village haven’t even heard the bells because they moved here after 2000.

“It is wonderful they will ring again. They will chime for every Sunday service and special events.

“It will be great to have wedding bells again. We already have three wedding bells booked in for next year.”
