CONOR Thornycroft is believed to be the youngest person ever to cycle from London to Paris.

The 12-year-old from Stanford-in-the-Vale joined his mum, Sylvia, and 27 other riders on the 200-mile challenge to fundraise for Diabetes UK.

They set off on Friday, September 6, and cycled for three days before reaching Paris on Sunday afternoon.

Conor, who attends Abingdon Prep School, said: “It was really difficult, but it was amazing.”

Conor and his mum have so far raised £3,000 for Diabetes UK which, topped up with Gift Aid, is more than £4,600.

Ms Thornycroft said: “We set our mind to doing it, we had a great group of people and we just got on with it.

“We expected the final day of 56 miles, the shortest distance, to be easier than the other two days – how wrong we were. Apart from the scary Parisian traffic there was one hill outside Paris which was at least four miles long.

“Walking up would not have gone down well, so everyone cycled it. Conor was over the moon to finish the trip.”
