A POLICE sergeant was moved to run the Berlin Marathon by the brain tumour battle of a colleague’s wife.

Sgt Colin Travi, from Woodstock, ran the September 29 race in four hours and 19 minutes to raise cash for The Brain Tumour Charity. He raised more than £2,500.

He was prompted into action by the story of fellow Kidlington neighbourhood officer Pc Ian Ledger, whose wife Jenny is being treated for a brain tumour.

Mr Travi, 46, a member of the Woodstock Harriers for 12 year,s said: “It is a long way and you are fighting off a lot of negative feelings.”

But he said he was inspired to reach the end by those who donated, adding: “It kept me going, absolutely no doubt about it.”

Louise Taylor, the charity’s director of fundraising, said brain tumours were the biggest cancer killer of the under-40s.

She said: “We are leading the way in changing this and truly fighting brain tumours on all fronts through our work, including a £2.5m investment into research this year alone.

“We receive no Government funding and rely 100 per cent on voluntary donations, so it’s only through the efforts of people like Colin that we can change these shocking statistics in the future and bring hope to the thousands of people who are diagnosed with a brain tumour every year.”
