WORK has begun on replacing a weir in Oxford as part of a major renovation project.
The Environment Agency is carrying out work at Osney Lock as part of its £3m investment into Oxfordshire’s river infrastructure over the winter.
The new tilting gate at Osney has been completed, replacing weir gates first constructed in 1883.
Now work has started on replacing the smaller weir, which involves building a temporary footbridge over the river.
Environment Agency spokesman Hayley Willoughby said: “Works to replace the footbridge on the Thames Path and the small weir gates have started. These will continue until Christmas. A temporary footbridge means the path will continue to be open.”
