A HEADTEACHER stepped out of the classroom and into a digger to help bulldoze an old science block.
The demolition of Oxford Spires Academy’s old science building started yesterday.
The school, in Glanville Road, opened the new £8.2m science and business block last month, called The Reuben Business and Science Faculty Building, It took three years to construct the building, which has 10 new science labs, ICT suites, a sixth-form centre and lecture theatre that can hold up to 330 people.
Headteacher Sue Croft was on hand to mark the moment.
She said: “It was iconic to knock down the facilities that were not big enough for our students.
“Now we have our brilliant new building we are finally saying goodbye to how things used to be.
“The plan now is we will have a lovely landscaped area, open space, and a basketball court on the land by March 2014.”
