TWO Banbury medieval arches are being restored in a project between council, civic and rail leaders.
The 13th century arches, which once supported a road bridge, now form part of a railway bridge in Bridge Street which is being restored by Network Rail with support from Banbury Town Council and Banbury Civic Society. Saplings are being removed to prevent damage to the structure.
Town council leader Kieron Mallon said: “The archways are a hidden gem – part of Banbury’s medieval history that few people know about.
“The council owns Bridge Street Park and is looking at ways to highlight the archways and make them a feature of the park.”
