A TEACHER is urging people to volunteer to help a child with the most important lesson of their life – learning to read.

Bure Park School’s head of literacy, Tina Woodgate, needs volunteers to help children sharpen their reading skills.

People are being asked to help out for two half-an-hour sessions each week at the primary school off Lucerne Avenue, Bicester.

Mrs Woodgate said: “Having volunteers coming into school fires the children’s enthusiasm.

“I’m a great believer that children need to enjoy what they are doing.

“We want them to love it and feel confident about it, and that’s why the volunteers are key.”

Dylan Morgan, seven, from Bicester, a pupil in Mrs Woodgate’s class, said: “I love stories and I have just started reading Harry Potter.”
