St GEORGE'S Day celebrations will take place in Wallingford on Saturday, April 19.

St Mary’s Street and St Martin’s Street will be closed to traffic from the High Street to St Leonard’s Square at 10am for stalls to be set up.

At 11am, the event will be opened by mayor Bernard Stone and entertainment will be provided by Wallingford School’s BIGG Band, and a Punch and Judy in the Market Place from noon to 12.30pm.

There will also be performances by Abingdon Morris and the Shady Grove String Band, children’s rides and face-painting sessions, with roads reopening from 4pm.

St George’s Day, which officially falls on Wednesday, April 23, is being marked in Oxford with the annual Civic Service on Sunday, April 27.

The service, which will be attended by Oxford's Lord Mayor, Dee Sinclair, will start at St Michael at the Northgate Church, in Cornmarket Street, at 10am.
