A ROAD in central Oxford will shut for about a month from tomorrow with about four weeks of disruption to follow.
Oxfordshire County Council agreed to close George Street so ISG Construction Ltd can carry out work to a building.
The street will be closed between Cornmarket and Victoria Court for about four weeks. There will then be one-way traffic only for about six weeks.
Bus services will be re-routed via Beaumont Street, where parking will be suspended to allow for temporary stops.
Stagecoach Oxfordshire said six of its bus routes will be affected by the closure, the S1, S2, S3, 14, 17 and 18.
These will divert and pick up and set down passengers in Beaumont Street while George Street is closed. It means planned improvements to the S1, S2 and S3 services from June 1 are on hold.
Oxford Bus Company has said Pear Tree and Redbridge services will terminate in the city centre and not stop in New Road.
Parking will be removed from the St Giles end of Beaumont Street to make way for temporary bus stops.
Emergency vehicles and pedestrians will have access.
