A GOVERNMENT minister has praised an RAF base after seeing how the headquarters supports its service personnel.
Minister for defence personnel, welfare and veterans Anna Soubry visited RAF Brize Norton earlier this month and learned about its welfare facilities, including a families club in Carterton, a bowling alley, cafe and gym.
She also went in a Hercules flight simulator and was shown some of the aircraft on site.
Mrs Soubry said: “RAF Brize Norton plays a vital role in the life of our Armed Forces and is the main base for a range of unique aircraft and facilities.
“I am extremely impressed with the committed people I met and the first-class equipment I was shown.”
She added: “I was also impressed with the links between the station and the local community, which demonstrates the Armed Forces Covenant in action.
“I am reassured that the welfare of both our regulars and reservists is in safe hands.”
