DEPUTY Prime Minister Nick Clegg, right, was due to face a grilling from 150 Oxfordshire residents today.

The Oxford Mail is hosting the special question-and-answer session so readers can put their questions directly to the Liberal Democrat leader.

It comes two days ahead of the county going to the polls for council and European parliament elections.

Held at a city-centre location, scores of people have signed up to directly quiz the politician, who will also be visiting other areas around Oxfordshire.

Oxford Mail editor Simon O’Neill said: “One of the key roles of any newspaper is to hold our politicians to account. But so should the public at large, at every opportunity.

“Nick Clegg’s visit is a welcome part of that process and the response to our call for questions to put the Deputy Prime Minister on the spot has been tremendous.

“It shows once again how politically engaged the people of Oxford are.”

Scores of people registered for the free event, due to be happening at 12.30pm.

People of any political persuasion were welcome to sign up.

The only vetting will be for security purposes, not political.

For a full rundown of what Oxfordshire residents raised with Mr Clegg, and what he had to say, see tomorrow’s Oxford Mail.
