A 26-year-old doctoral student at the University of Oxford was found dead in his room after taking morphine.

Paul Robertson, of Cripley Road, was discovered by his girlfriend, Sophie Bocksberger, on May 18, Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court heard on Wednesday.

The house in which Mr Robertson – a Doctor of Philosophy postgraduate student from Ascot – lived is owned by the university, said coroner Darren Salter.

His girlfriend found him sitting in a chair, said the coroner.

The cause of death was “morphine toxicity”.

The inquest into his death has been adjourned until September 18.
