Sir – At the new mega Sainsbury’s supermarket in Bicester the cafe does my breakfast of, ‘fried egg and toast’. Waste food is nil. However I thought to sample the lunch — traditional fish and chips.
There was no indication of portions — ‘take what we give you’.
Amazingly, the amount on my plate was almost double my requirement.
So, the leftovers were dumped in the waste bin. This is diabolical, with Sainsbury’s ignoring the serious issue of food waste.
Sainsbury’s should be instructed to supply food in suitable portions to stop waste.
Sainsbury’s own staff agreed the food waste was embarrassing to them.
N MacRae (Mr), Bicester
