Sir – The story of the sacrifices of a single Bicester family in the Great War made very poignant reading (Report, May 22).
No doubt many similar stories of personal tragedy and remembrance will emerge in the coming months.
Readers may be interested to know that the Iffley History Society will shortly be producing a small publication about the impact the war had on Iffley village — The Great War: Iffley Remembers. Twenty-six men of Iffley died (21 of whom are commemorated on a brass tablet in St Mary’s church) and more than 150 others served and returned home.
The book, by local authors Ron and Diana Cosford (three of whose grandfathers were killed in the war), tells the stories of these men and their close-knit lives in what a hundred years ago was still only a small village.
