I am writing concerning the article ‘Are young people too connected to technology in their day to day lives’ (June 4).
Your correspondent Anna Weekes is right in explaining that some teenagers are engrossed in using their electronic devices to the extent of being unaware of their surroundings. When they are spoken to, they just don’t hear, or don’t want to hear, what’s being said to them and do not enter into a conversation with others.
No one doubts the benefits of these machines which are bursting with information on just about everything. However, it also has negative affects.
Surely, with time passing, will this lead to a society of info-creeps who cannot communicate by mouth. In this era of social websites, text and e-mails dominate communications between youngsters. Will this end in an education system which does away with normal debate by the spoken word?
