A former pupil of King Alfred’s College in Wantage has thanked his old teachers for their support after he was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Jonathan Ullmer, 53, was given the honour for his work as director of education for the group of international schools, CATS Colleges, and as principal of CATS College Canterbury.
He grew up in Harwell and attended Harwell Parish Church.
Mr Ullmer said: “I’m delighted to accept this award and dedicate it to the amazing teachers, and above all the students I have had the honour of serving for so many years, and the great teachers who taught me so many years ago at King Alfred’s in Wantage.”
He added that he was also very grateful to Didcot Rotary Club, which had supported him with funding during his university years, including studies for a master’s degree in British Columbia, Canada.
