Sir – In contrast to Steven Bennett (Letters, June 19), I’m sorry that the city planners did not reject Harris Manchester College’s proposal for its new building in Mansfield Road.

The new tower and gateway look like part of a Disneyland-version of an Oxford college.

The college should instead have commissioned an elegant modern tower, built in stone, and thus have added to the city’s array of inspiring structures.

Instead, their contribution to the 21st-century cityscape is this bizarre pastiche.
