Sir – At his inauguration the new Lord Mayor of Oxford, Mohammed Abbasi, named two disability organisations as the charities he has chosen to support during his year in office — Unlimited Oxfordshire and Restore.

Unlimited Oxfordshire is a registered charity dedicated to the promotion of social inclusion of physically and sensory disabled people.

Your readers may think that improvements in legislation over the last 30 years on such things as toilets, buses, parking, and access to buildings have achieved this.

However, there is much that still needs to be done and Unlimited aims to work with the community to remove the barriers that still remain and to open doors, that are readily available to others, to disabled people as well.

As one of Mr Abbasi's chosen charities, we urge you and the citizens and organisations of Oxford to work with us to ensure that disabled people are enabled and encouraged to enjoy and contribute to all that this city has to offer.

Your support on this will be much appreciated.

Peter Hindshaw, Chairman, Unlimited Oxfordshire
