CREATIVITY will blossom as thousands of flowers are to decorate Lady Margaret Hall over the weekend.

Flowers@Oxford – thought to be the city’s biggest cut flower event – will have demonstrations from top florists, competitions and displays of £1m worth of flowers including 20,000 roses and gerbera.

Helen Sinclair created a piece called Catching Dreams in the college’s gardens. She said: “I decided to do a North American dream catcher. I used moth orchids for my fresh plant materials, and used hearts and butterflies made from wood.

“The principle of the design is repetition of theme, colour and texture. I wanted a naturalistic feel to the design so I focused on ivory colours and dark wood.”

The Oxford Times:

The 41-year-old chartered librarian travelled from Bedfordshire just to be a part of the show.

She said: “There are eight dream catchers in total at the show.

“It took me four hours to make beforehand, and will take three hours at the show.

“The hoop was constructed already but the rest I did by myself. It took hours and hours of sewing but it was all worth it.”

The three-day event, which began yesterday, will display 10,000 roses, many of them used to decorate the college’s chapel, along with 10,000 orchids.
