A TEENAGER who persuaded 1,400 people in her home town to wear jeans for charity won plaudits from the Prime Minister.

Carterton Community College pupil Ciara McAleese asked everyone in her community to join in the denim day on Friday.

She is raising money and awareness for the RAF Benevolent Fund, which supports air force families like those at nearby RAF Brize Norton. Both her parents served in the RAF, so the cause is one that is close to her heart.

She met Witney MP David Cameron at the Conservative constituency office in Witney.

Ciara, 15, said: “I was a bit star-struck.

“He was really, really delighted with what we were doing, he was so down-toearth.

He made me want to be prime minister a lot.”

She was also hoping to raise money for 2267 Sqn Brize Norton Air Cadets, of which she is one.

Ciara, who lives in Carterton, organised the stunt with other members of Carterton Community Champions, which raises money for local good causes.

She estimated that with about 1,400 people taking part at her college and primary schools in the area, she had raised about £1,500.

She is also organising a concert by local primary school children at her college on Thursday.
