A SOLDIER killed in a canoeing accident while serving in Cyprus will be repatriated to RAF Brize Norton, Oxfordshire County Council has said.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) confirmed on Tuesday that Private Jamie Lee Sawyer, 20, a Royal Logistic Corps chef attached to the 2 Mercian Battlegroup, was killed while deployed on a United Nations peacekeeping tour on March 12.
The 20-year-old, from Birmingham, had been training in the Mediterranean Sea but had been involved in a “tragic and fatal accident”, the ministry said.
