DISABLED and able-bodied children were given the chance to play together at an event organised by The Parasol Project in Marston.

The play day at Tower PlayBase in Maltfield Road was one of a series of sessions which will be run by the charity throughout the summer.

The Parasol Project recruits and runs a team of ‘enablers’ who support disabled children and help them to play with children who are not disabled.

The play day on Monday saw the youngsters who came along take part in activities such as pretending to be pirates.

The charity aims to make sure disabled children can play on equal terms with able-bodied children, as they are often excluded due to the level of support they need.

The Parasol Project makes sure they only pay £10 to attend, the same price as any other child who does not require an ‘enabler’.

The enablers act as advocates for the young people and their families and aim to help disabled young people by challenging inequality.

The charity also supports disabled teenagers between the ages of 13 and 19 to try and give them more leisure opportunities.
