A LIGHTNING strike cut power to more than 2,100 homes in East Oxford for five hours last night.
Lightning hit a transformer in the area at 9.30pm, cutting off electricity to a total of 2106 properties, Southern Electric said.
Engineers worked through the night and restored power to all but six customers by 2.32am.
The company said it repaired customers’ supply where it could, but some homes have had to be put on generators until their normal mains supply route can be repaired.
A spokesman for firm thanked customers for their patience.
